A blade with a conscience
Trained to suppress every feeling, Rayla is ruled by them anyway — which is exactly what makes her a hero instead of a weapon.
Core traits
Rayla is defined by a fierce sense of justice and an unbending moral compass. She is brave, loyal, compassionate, and deeply self-sacrificing — and also sarcastic, witty, occasionally arrogant or "judgy," and proudly stubborn. The instant she learns the Dragon Prince still lives, she abandons her assassination mission; from then on she risks her life for others again and again.
Growth in temperament
Like all Moonshadow Elves, Rayla was trained to suppress emotion — and the series is partly the story of her slowly opening up. After the Storm Spire she grows less impulsive and more responsible, while carrying clear signs of trauma from the battle. General Amaya remarks that Rayla reminds her of a younger version of herself.
