Fun Facts & Trivia

Beneath the veil

The little things — production lore, in-jokes, and numbers — that make Rayla fans grin.

  • She's voiced by Paula Burrows, who also voices Opeli, Berto the parrot, and Queen Annika.
  • She's named after Rayla Heide, a close friend of the Wonderstorm staff.
  • Her signature "Naruto-run" was storyboard artist Giancarlo Volpe's idea, "with encouragement from Lulu Younes."
  • Early concept art gave her an extra forehead marking and a too-confident expression that had to be toned down. As a child, her markings extended over her eyebrows.
  • The drooping pinkies on her human-disguise gloves were a fun storyboard-team addition — part of why "Human Rayla" is a fan-favourite.
  • In Book Six she calls Callum "Snoozles," a nod to Avatar: The Last Airbender — Toph's nickname for Sokka, who, like Callum, is voiced by Jack De Sena.
  • She appears in 53 episodes — the second-most of any character — absent only from the Book Four premiere.
  • Her parents used to send her birthday letters about their life on the Dragonguard.
